Tillandsia Studies (2016-Ongoing)
Body of work that developed after studying Santiago Ramon y Cajal’s early drawings and speculations of neurons. The photographs are all of air plants (tillandsias) which are native to the Central American region.
Once abstracted through various lighting techniques (silhouettes for example) and both physical and digital means (mirrors, glass, 3D rendering etc.) they become strangely reminiscent of Cajal’s attempts at visualizing synapses, neurons and chemical exchanges in the brain.
